A Quiet Day After Travel

Distance can be one factor that cam become greatly exaggerated whilst travelling. Having awoke to a resort in full conference mode, it seemed we had camped on the footsteps of Flinders Street Station. People were everywhere and the car park full to the brim with cars. By mid morning most guests had checked out for the start of the working week, leaving more quiet reflective resort grounds to be explored.

Breakfast proved busy and very different to the buffet offered by Australian Hotels. Of course the obligatory scrambled, eggs and bacon, together with toast, pastries and a selection of cereals and juices were present. All could have been swallowed without much fuss until other offerings were revealed under the serving domes. There were 3 savoury soups, several rice dishes, two seaweed options, a strange sausage dish and of course the ever present Kim-chi (three varieties). We had heard stories that Kim-chi is consumed at every meal and today confirmed all rumours. What could we do but; “when in Rome.......”

Determined to have a quiet day we followed the Turpies to the JeolMul Natural Forest Recreational Area. By Australian standards it would be considered close to a “state park” only very much more manicured, particularly near the main entrance. Raised timber walkways abounded close to the main entrance, giving way to well trodden mazes of hiking trails up to the foothills of Mt Halla National Park, which is the main volcanic crater of Jeju.

We had been reliably informed that a taxi was needed to reach the park only to have our hotel within sight upon arrival. For adults the walk, though uphill was well and truly feasible, about 20 minutes. Nevertheless Amelie and Jin had a wonderful time exploring wooden statues and tackling various ropes courses and playgrounds. A highlight were the Mineral Springs. Thirsts had been earned storming the slopes so the lovely cool waters were truly appreciated.

An afternoon sleep follows anticipation of finally catching up with group one arriving from Seoul just in time for dinner and of course the comparison of sights seen and tall travel tales.

Tomorrow the real fun begins.....Lookout Jeju “Love is in the air....and on 'da bus!”
