Bye, Bye Group One

Thursday 7th Apr, 7:50am AEST.

Whilst sitting down to breakfast this morning there came the sudden realisation that group one would be boarding the plane to Seoul, Korea as we enjoyed our porridge.

This came with amongst many thoughts; jealousy as we can't wait to begin our own adventure, excitement because it will soon be our turn and sadness because Group One had originally planned to visit Japan, but cancelled that part of the trip during the early stages of the earthquake disaster and some have pulled out of the entire tour.

Having been to Japan it is sad to see the nation suffering so and still in some danger until after shocks settle and the Nuclear reactors are finally cooled down and inactive. Let's hope soon people will be looking to visit Japan once again to experience a diverse and excitng country.

As a tourist we find Korea and Japan have much in common as far as people are concerned. Yes we realise there is history of warfare and occupation that leaves scars, but for a tourist it is the people of a country make a trip.

In both countries we have been welcomed by "locals" and approaches by people are genuine attempts to be helpful or seize an oportunity to practice speaking English. Some conversations have been very stilted as we swap phrase books between participants, yet these interludes are amongst our favourite memories of visiting both countries.

All that aside...... Enjoy your days in Seoul Group One. Amelie is desperately looking forward to catching up with old friends Lily and Sam and not to mention the opportunity to make friends with the kids we only see at Han Ho.
